<<<As I was sat next to Hans-Joerg Frieden to film a couple of demos I learned that the system is now running at 1.8Ghz, still a few bugs to iron out with booting, there was a small problem in that if the HD gets invalidated, that the system would hang on boot, so you had to boot from a validated drive and use that to revalidate, then all was well again. Of course this little problem will be gone by the time the X1000 goes public.
Other things I picked up on, they are thinking (note the word "thinking" as this may or may not happen) that it would be a good idea if they monitored the CPU temperature and turned on the fan only when the CPU got hot enough to need it, therefore you would have a very quiet machine when it was not doing anything very processor intensive, also the CPU speed could be throttled back automatically if it still got too hot !
I was also shown the CPU speed being changed on the fly with a simple CLI command
My overall impression was the X1000 is going to be a very fast machine when finished and all the bugs and debug code are removed.
X1000 still running on debug, all were REV 1 mobos .... Sitting in front of the X1000 does not feel faster than a SAM440.. opening windows with lots of icons takes longer than on SAM440. WB Startup Window was also slower, as well as bootime. Trevor said it is mainly due to HD (WIP) driver (forgot to ask wether it is SATA or something else). As far as I understood Trevor, he said embossed cases will be made for comercial production run, a "test" batch of 4 embossed cases will be done beforehand (hope I understood it right)>>>
