KryoFlux è un progetto di scheda controller da inserire dentro i lettori Floppy Disk USB da costruirsi da soli, completa di schemi di assemblaggio e driver e fornita al pubblico come libero download (se non lo usate per scopi commerciali).

Niente male per chi vuol rivitalizzare i floppy da PC/OS4.x ad Amiga Classici!

Direi assolutamente interessante.

Anche perche', se memoria non mi inganna, tempo addietro si diceva che era impossibile far leggere floppy Amiga sui normali lettori floppy PC.

Immaginavo che tutto era possibile realizzare, ed oggi anche questo si puo'.

In ambiente Linux e' possibile far caricare WinUAE direttamente all'accensione del PC, diciamo che si ha l'impressione che nel momento in cui si accende il Ns. PC, l'OS caricato e' AmigaOS3.9.
Se oggi si rende possibila caricare anche normali floppy Amiga con un classico lettore Floppy PC... si ha la possibilita', virtualmente, di avere un super Amiga reale ultra potente a tutti gli effetti, anche se sempre di Amiga Classic si tratterebbe.

nel video, si intuisce che il codice è "facilmente" portabile anche su altri OS, quindi sarebbe molto bello poter utilizzare tale hardware in OS4.x e MorphOS2.x

Intendevo proprio quello che dici tu, cioe' avere un super Amiga con WinUAE, ed in piu' poter finalmente avere la retrocompatibilita' offerta da questa schedina.
Fino ad ora non era possibile leggere floppy Amiga direttamente, oggi si.

Firstly, apologies for my English, I don't want to inflict a Google translation on you, but I thought it better to post this than not...

We at the Software Preservation Society have been working on a system to help with our preservation goals, and now it is available to the public, we thought many people would find it interesting and useful to use themselves.

This system, which we have called "KryoFlux" is basically a way of reading your old floppy disks, no matter what the system they are for, with no regard for what disk format or copy protection they may contain.

KryoFlux is actually a software-programmable FDC (Floppy Disk Controller) system that runs on small and cheap ARM-based devices that connects to a floppy disk drive, and a host PC over USB connector. It reads (and in the future, will write) "flux transitions" from floppy disks at a very fine resolution. It can also read disks originally written with different (and even varying) bit cell widths and drive speeds, with a normal fixed-speed drive.

KryoFlux is available **FOR FREE** for private non-commercial use. You will however need to build or buy a board based on our open hardware design (or buy a development board which you can get right now). We are currently in negotiations with hardware manufacturers to allow you easy access to this hardware if you do not want to build it yourself.

KryoFlux supports dumping any floppy disk to “stream files”, which contain the low-level flux transition information, but it also supports output to a wide range of common “sector dump” formats to allow you to use your images right away in your favourite emulator.

Q. Why is it free?
A. Because we are a non-profit preservation organisation, and our ultimate goal is not financial, but to save all these wonderful games before they are lost.

Q. Do I need a special drive?
A. No. Just a standard PC drive and floppy cable is required to dump any media for that drive.

Q. Does it work with 5 1/4" drives?

Q. Will it work on a laptop?
A. Yes. It uses standard USB. We have it running on an EeePC.

Q. Why can't I just use the floppy drive in my PC?
A. The floppy controller in the PC can only read the very strict format PC disks, and not very much of anything from other platforms. Not only that, but any copy protection on disks is hard to extract properly without a "low level" read - which you can't do through a PC's FDC. For various reasons, we would strongly argue that images of disks read through a PC floppy controller are unsuitable for preservation.

Q. Is it Windows only?
A. The software is currently in beta, and only runs on Windows (32 or 64-bit, Windows XP or greater). The source to the host software will be available after we go final, and we are then hoping to get it ported to as many platforms as possible. The code was written with portability in mind.

Q. Is it command-line only usage?
A. For the beta, yes. However, we are working on a graphical user interface which will likely be available when we go final.

bello, la versione pubblica e' stata ridotta al minimo, e' rimasto il chip e qualche connettore, il resto come attacco di rete e lettore di secure digital o similare, sono stati eliminati, ma secondo me il chip deve essere programmato e non credo si possa via usb, bisogna capire.

poi non ho capito bene, ma ci vuole un floppy amiga o va bene anche un floppy da pc?

ho letto inoltre che e' partito da una Evaluation Board che e' quella che si vede legata sopra al floppy amiga per poi estrapolare e ridurre al minimo la scheda.

e ma quella e'la scheda base!!se leggi e la EVALUTATION BOARD!!!
sono partititi da quella scheda e poi ci hanno saldato fili ponti resistenze e programmato il processore anche se comprassi quella scheda non ci farei nulla se non fossi capace a fare e programmare

secondo me il chip deve essere programmato e non credo si possa via usb, bisogna capire.

Il microcontrollore lo programmi proprio da USB, utilizzando SAM-BA (lo uso anche per lavoro ); ti serve però il file da scaricare nella flash del dispositivo.

ci vorrebbe un "porting" del software e relativa GUI per AmigaOS4.x e MorphOS2.x, sarebbe bellissimo utilizzare questo hardware in lettura e successivamente in scrittura con i nostri Amiga
