"This is something that was revealed to us a few days ago and to be honest, we’re not entirely sure what to make of it. Naturally we are always sceptical when we here random reports that Sega is planning a new console launch, but we may as well share with you this ‘news.’
According to the blog, Fast Game News Online, or “FGNOnline” (which I’d never heard of until about two days ago), Sega is planning to re-enter the console wars in 2010 with a new, cheap console to be aimed at the casual gaming market.
Apparently the new console is based off Sega’s new RingEdge arcade board and will be a cheap HD system, designed to compete directly with “the successor to the Wii.”
More speculation after the break.
The report on FGNOnline talks about how Sega had a console in development back in 2000 and then later planned another console for 2004. FGNOnline has been reporting on Sega Sammy news and most of the blog features legitimate reports on recent Sega news.
But a few things seem a little ‘off’ about the site, as fellow Sega fans at SEGAtastic have reported. For one thing the blog is run by someone called “Zack Morris” - which anyone brought up in the early nineties will probably recognise as it was the main character’s name in the show “Saved By The Bell”. But I guess it’s not unusual for someone to write under a false name, one based on an iconic character.
However as SEGAtastic reveals, there was also a Zach Morris who reported several hoax articles on the website RealGamePlayers (site currently inactive), including a report about a new Sega console in 2004:
“Hajime Satomi Interested In “home Hardware” (7th June 2004)
Today I have some earth shattering news
A close colleague of RGP who has connection with people within Sega of Japan has informed us that Hajime Satomi the Chairman/CEO of Sega Sammy has “serious” intentions towards the “home console market front”.
It has been said that Satomi has some “serious serious plans” for “rapid expansion” into businesses which would lead to an “explosion of income”.
Our informant tells us that Satomi is watching the current hardware scene with a “Hawks Eye”
Our colleague continues-
“A major factor in deciding whether to release the soon to be unvieled Naomi 3 arcade board based console would be on what Microsoft and Nintendo are up to”
Apparantly Satomi-san believes their chance will come if Nintendo and Microsoft team up, so that Sega can slip in as the third entrant.
This is all the news which is available at this moment in time.
Stay tuned…
Industry Insider - Insider scoops EIC”
But the guys at FGNOnline have denied that this is the same Zach Morris, stating:
“We directed this post to the attention of Mr Morris, who stated that he has no knowledge of freewebs.com/realgamesplayer and that particular Zach Morris is not he.
FGNOnline is Mr Morris’s very first online portal.
Hopefully that has clarified any misconceptions you may of had.”
One curious thing is that the site FGNOnline only seems to be run by Zach Morris. As the site’s “About” page states:
Zach Morris has been in the industry for over 30 years. He has been a business associate of industry legends such as Hayao Nakayama, Isao Okawa, Hajime Satomi.
Join him daily as he reports deep from the bowels of the industry with insider news, gossip and world exclusives you won’t read anywhere else.
So who exactly “directed this post to the attention of Mr Morris” - when he seems to run the site by himself?
Also futher discredit comes as I have been told that a Zach Morris also used to post up bogus Sega news on the official Sega America boards back in 2004/2005.
It seems a mighty big coincidence that someone called Zach Morris used to post hoax reports on the SoA boards, on the site RealGamesPlayers and now also on FGNOnline.
And (again) according to SEGAtastic, the website FGNOnline was previously shut down in 2001. Looking at the current state of the site, it has only been around for a couple of months and despite being called “Fast Game News” it has only reported on Sega Sammy corporate news and all the posts have been by Zach Morris.
While it is possible that the site is legitimate, I have my doubts. With the information on Zach Morris’ previous site activities and reading through some of the articles on FGNOnline, it looks to me like the site was setup for the sole purpose of creating this rumour. You know, post some recent, legitimate news about Sega/Sammy and then slip in reports of an unheard of console, claiming to have a “World Exclusive” on the console details, when Sega themselves (supposedly) aren’t planning to reveal it.
The fact of the matter is that the report on the new console doesn’t feature any hard evidence; no quotes, images or even basic concept art for the system.
So for now, I am going to guess that this report is total rubbish. If it does turn out to be true, I am more than willinging to eat my own words - lord knows I’d love for a new Sega console to be true! Whatever the case, I’m sure we will find out the truth soon enough.
Even if it is true, does anyone think that Sega coming into the console race next year is a good idea? Personally I think it would be financial suicide."

In pratica qui si dice che il Dreamcast 2 potrebbe essere basato sull'hardware di un cabinato Sega da sala (RINGEDGE)... eccovi il link con i video:
http://www.seganerds.com/2009/02/19/am2 ...
@kyle
fatti un giro su youtube e scrivi Dreamcast cosi' ne scoprirai le meraviglie ;) l'elenco dei titoli migliori penso di averli scritti tutti (o quasi) nel mio primo post
