Casino con xf86config

Allora ho installato una slackware 8.0 in un portalile con scheda video cirruslogic 7548 PCI e ovviamente linux non la vede nemmeno di striscio
allora mi è stato detto di editare il file XF86Config assegnando i parametri trovati in un sito per portatili.
Quando però cerco di avviare X mi dice che la scheda va bene il monitor va bene ma lo screen c'è ma nessuna configurazione è tale per farlo funzionare
mi potete dire come fare?

A parte che la Slackware 8 e` vecchia molto...

ti dispiacerebbe postare (tutto) il log dell'errore di Xfree?
e possibilmente anche dare maggiori details sul portatile.

è pure troppo nuova invece dato l'hardware del pc ....il portatile è un olivetti echos 200DM

Si. Anche se io a questo punto ci metterei su:
1. Debian Woody
2. Slackware 8.1 non piu` pesante della 8, ma molto piu` stabile

Dovrei vedere tutto il file di configurazione....
Se hai spazio su web, mettilo lie poi linkalo.

Altrimenti postalo pure tutto, poi quando vediamo quale e` la parte fallace, modifico il post in modo che compaia solo la parte 'interessante' del file.

è più stabile ma senza lettore non ce la posso proprio mettere perchè il color.gz è più grande di due mega...non chiedermi il perchè...comunque ora c' èquella e resta quella
scusa ma non ho capito cosa devo fare...non fa in questo forum ad allegare file? ti avrei allegato tutto l'xf86config e me lo avresti modificato

tu cosa vuoi che posti?

Allora, puoi fare due cose.
O metti il file di configurazione e i log da qualche parte, e poi posti il link, oppure li copi e li posti.

A quel punto dopo avere risposto, tolgo le parti 'inutili' del log e del file fi configurazione, in modo da ridimensionare la lunghezza del post

ikir grazie per il benvenuto anche se a dire la verità non ho ben capito la battuta delle maiuscole
allora qui sotto metto il link che mi hanno dato per modificare l'xf86config e poi il mio xfconfig non so come metterlo perchè essendo io ancora inesperto di linux non so come copiare un file su un floppy tenendo come fs vfat. (SO CHE PER QUESTE COSE DOVREI DOCUMENTARMI DA ME MA PER FAVORE DATEMI IL COMANDO VOI CHE SO TROPPO INCASINATO IN STO PERIODO ).
Così lo copio e lo metto tutto qua cosi lo controllate.

A sboccio potrei dire che mi pare mancare la sezione "ServerLayout" e che ci sono troppe sezioni "Screen"

Direi che tutto si puo` spiegare con il fatto che magari usa XFree 3.x e non 4.x
Io mi sono scordato come erano i vecchi files di configurazione... anche se in effetti mi pare un 4.x.. prova a vedere man cosa ne dice...

bravo ci sono troppe screen infatti se le metto tutte o più di una mi dice che sono troppe e poi è vero manca la section serverlayout.
mi dici però come copiare il file nel floppy fat 32?

beh, pero` guarda che il non-uso delle maiuscole in rete e` cosa parecchio vecchia e diffusa. non tanto fra le nuove leve (ma nemmeno sempre), ma fra i grandi del passato tutt'ora si

poi ti snippo il post del file di configurazione togliendo le parti inutili, una volta capito il problema.

allora...
sostanzialmente puoi provare due cose.
fai un backup del file di configurazione.

poi..

trovi due section screen... in particolare mi riferisco a

in pratica devi aggiungere la riga
