Firstly, this will be my one and only post on the issue... You
said don't bother replying if we have no new info, and really
nothing has changed regarding development status - development is
continuing. Most, if not all, your questions have been answered
at some stage or another, and I don't want to waste time
re-iterating answers given months ago, but it seems I don't have
much choice...
IBrowse 2.4 was originally only ever about flash/plugin support,
and major (read: crash inducing) bug fixes. It would be foolish to
release 2.4 before plugin support has been tested fully (e.g. only
the other week, the rendering API had to be fundamentally changed).
Likewise, major bugs at least need to be looked at and evaluated to
see if they are fixable for 2.4 - the majority of remaining issues
requiring Stefan's expertise, and Stefan has not been able to
dedicate much time to IBrowse lately for various reasons (OS4 being
a small one). Obviously, I've looked at all remaining issues
myself, but I'm afraid I'm not yet capable of fixing everything :(
And also as I've said before, whilst the stalemate continues on the
release-stopping issues, development continues in other areas - we
might as well resolve as many other minor issue as possible instead
of halting development until Stefan is available. In reality 2.4
should probably be renamed 2.5 - it will be much more than 2.4 was
ever supposed to be.
I am well aware that 2.4 is long overdue, and I probably more than
any other user have wanted to get 2.4 done'n'dusted asap, since I
want to work on 3.0 (mainly because of CSS). But, we're never
going to be in a position to announce unbreakable release dates
until 2.4 has entered the release candidate phase, and at that
point there will be light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.
And, finally, at the risk of repeating myself yet further... OS4 is
a side issue at this stage - it is not holding up IBrowse
development - there are other issues that need fixing that don't
involve OS4 at all. So, it's pointless to keep bringing OS4 into
this thread.
Rest assured, I'm not sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for
2.4 to release itself - quite the contrary. All we can do is our
very best, and if that isn't good enough, then what can we do???
